Know Who’s Holding the Microphone at Your Wedding

Before you book, confirm the people behind the company name. Ask who your DJ and MC will be, how their date is secured and where those names appear in your agreement.

Your wedding day is a strange time to meet the person you thought you booked months ago.

Book the people as well as the company

You watch the videos. You like the music. You hear an MC who sounds like somebody you would actually want introducing your family. Then you book the company.

There is one more question to ask. Are those the people coming to your wedding?

Ask for the name of your DJ and your MC before you commit. Find out who handles the ceremony, who runs the reception music and who makes the announcements. If one person is doing more than one job, understand how that will work.

The person who sells you the package may have a different role on the day. You deserve to know where everybody fits.

Ask how your date is confirmed

Some entertainment companies work with independent DJs and MCs. Those performers may also accept their own bookings. Ask how the company checks each person’s availability and keeps your date reserved.

A company expecting to have staff available still needs to confirm the actual people. A second booking on somebody’s calendar can become your problem very quickly.

Here is what I would ask. Has our DJ personally confirmed this date? Has our MC? Who is responsible for keeping that commitment?

Listen for a clear answer. You should be able to leave that conversation knowing whose calendar you are on.

Put the names and roles in writing

If you chose someone because you watched their work, liked their style or felt comfortable talking to them, their name belongs in your agreement.

Confirm the date, the coverage hours and who is doing what. Ask when you will speak with your actual DJ and MC about the songs, names and moments you want included.

Tell the team what matters to you. Maybe you want a host who gets the whole room singing. Maybe you want warm introductions and plenty of room for the music. Knowing the person helps you have that conversation before the wedding.

What that means at Top Notch

At Top Notch, the people you book are the people you get. Your booking names your DJ and MC, so you know who will be with you on the day.

For couples choosing our premier Signature Wedding, our first recommendation is Anthony as DJ and me as MC. We also have a full team of talented DJs and MCs, with options for different celebrations, styles and budgets.

We help you choose the people who fit your plans and confirm that team for your date. You should know who is playing your first dance and who is asking everyone to raise a glass.

Surprise your guests with a great entrance. The name of your DJ should already be settled.

For your own event

  1. Confirm the names and roles of your DJ and MC before booking.

  2. Ask how each performer’s availability and commitment to your date are secured.

  3. Have your agreement name the people and coverage you chose.
